Dawn Chung came to the First Baptist Church of North Kingstown in 2003 and has been serving as the music director since. She works with the pastors, directs the church choir, provides service music, and has participated in church outreach and community musical activities.

Dawn grew up in Taiwan.  She was introduced to classical music at an early age, even before she was born, as she sat in concert halls in the comfort of her mother’s womb. At age four and half, Dawn began her formal piano training.  After receiving a degree in Music Education, she became a music teacher. She taught music classes and directed choirs in public schools, while doing free-lance performing and maintaining her private piano studio. She loves teaching and has attended many workshops and seminars to refine her skills and keep growing and improving as a teacher and musician.

In search of self-discovery and expansion, Dawn left her hometown of Taipei, Taiwan, and came to the United States in 1996. While studying at the Berklee College of Music, she totally immersed herself in a completely different but new and exciting culture and environment. Her experiences during those years profoundly impacted her life.  Later, she continued her music education at the University of Rhode Island and received a Master’s Degree in Music Performance.

As a solid classical pianist with competence in playing a wide range of music genres, Dawn has performed in concert halls, music theaters, libraries, museums, recording studios, festivals, casinos, restaurants, dance floors and many corporate events. She plays solo or with musical groups, from string quintets to Jazz Orchestras, from cabaret to opera, from English country dance ensemble to tango band.

Dawn has been nominated three times as the best local music act by Motive Magazine polls, and she has appeared several times as a performing guest on local TV shows. You can also spot her in the recent films “Anastasia: Once Upon A Time” and “CODA”.  Before the pandemic, Dawn was one of the hosts and DJs at the classical music show at WRIU radio station.

Dawn was married for ten years.  She became the caregiver to her beloved husband who battled illnesses for years shortly after their marriage. This experience helped her journey farther down the spiritual path, and she gained a new perspective on life and death.  After her husband passed away, Dawn discovered dancing (ballroom and Argentine tango), which soon became a major part of her life. She enjoys social dancing and occasional dance performances. One of her dreams is to dance in films and to travel and dance in different parts of the world.

Curiosity and an adventurous mind have brought Dawn many unique life experiences. She devotes herself to self-development as a lifelong journey. She loves to inspire and be inspired. One of her passions is to help people see the divinity and power within themselves. She recently became a certified life coach, which allows her to serve people better, empower them to reach their higher potential, and live a fulfilling life.
